Did you know Father's Day was founded in Spokane? It was! At the YMCA in 1910 by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children here. And while I believe EVERY day should be a day to celebrate dad, we took our celebration to Manito Park for something extra special this year - The Dad's Day Dash 5k!
What a great event! From the fantastic t-shirts and goody bags, to the exuberant volunteers around every corner of the course, my Dad and I had a great time from start to finish! My Dad has become a great race buddy - next up the Smokechaser in Priest Lake this fall!
Oh and I should mention...we celebrated our accomplishment with a fantastic Mexican feast at Fiesta Mexicana and ice cream at Brain Freeze Creamery (try the Om Nom Nom in a fresh waffle bowl...it's life altering).
Hope all the Dad's out there had a great Father's Day weekend. And I hope you continue to get celebrated all year long.
