Unclaimed property totals $Millions! Time running out for some!

The Arizona Department of Revenue's Unclaimed Property Unit returns millions of dollars of unclaimed property to their rightful owners every year. In fiscal year 2018 (July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018), $64.3 million was paid out to claimants, the highest figure in ADOR history.

The department returns property to owners who provide documentation showing their right to claim the property. People must include with their claim form a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or other applicable identification, and documentation linking them to the owner’s last known address, as reported by the company that filed the unclaimed property. Claimants also must provide documentation demonstrating a legal right to claim any property listed in another name.

For more information about the Department of Revenue’s Unclaimed Property Unit and how to do a search, go to www.azdor.gov and click on the Unclaimed Property tab.

I spoke with Ed Greenberg from the Department of Revenue about the fact that there is a time limit before the property goes to the State, and there are about 35 people who have a total of about $1 million dollars waiting for them but it will go to the State on July 1 if still unclaimed!

Take a listen to my conversation with Ed from our Valley Views program. You'll be surprised at how much unclaimed property there is and how easy it is to find out if any of it belongs to you!
