Beer For Brains was founded by Louis Dolgoff in 2010 in memory of his wife of 30-years, Laurie Dolgoff, who passed away from a glioblastoma and they both loved craft beer. They have been raising funds through unique large-scale craft beer fundraising events for brain tumor research and are now building their impact by bringing their community events and fundraising into Head for the Cure Foundation as an additional program to raise awareness, funds and hope for the brain tumor community.
Head for the Cure Foundation was created in2003 by digital marketing agency executive Matt Anthony, after the loss of his brother Chris Anthony, who suffered from a Glioblastoma brain tumor and died in 2003 at the age of 37. The nonprofit mission is to raise awareness, funds and hope for the brain tumor community through supporting research and programs. Head for the Cure is a registered 501(c)3 organization. http://www.headforthecure.org Their form 990, EIN and fact sheet can be found here: http://www.headforthecure.org/content/financials.
Ivy Brain Tumor Center is a part of the Barrow Neurological Institute as well as one of 32 clinics who participate in the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) that is housed within the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Funds raised on their behalf will initiate clinical trials, which is the first step before they can be offered to the different clinics across the country to recruit patients. This collaborative effort is extremely unique in the medical community because it is comprised of physicians and institutions who realize this disease is bigger than themselves and that no one can find a cure on their own. https://www.ivybraintumorcenter.org/
Andy Ptacek is a young mother who was told that her brain cancer was inoperable. She got a second opinion at the Ivy Brain Tumor Center and was successfully operated on!
I spoke with Andy and Louis for our Valley Views public affairs program. Two delightful people with a common cause.
