Sept 30, 1968 Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Colorado River Basin Project Act, which created the
Central Arizona Project to ensure a reliable source of water for Central Arizona for years to come, making
possible the huge growth that we are all well aware of. But you may not be aware of what an amazing feat of engineering that the canal represents. I recently visited CAP headquarters for a first hand look at the control center where computer operators control the flow of water to cities, farmers, Indian tribes, industries and other customers, and the machine shop where skilled machinists maintain the pumps and other equipment necessary to keep the water flowing, often having to repair or recreate equipment made by companies that are no longer in existence. Find out more about all of this at CentralArizonaProject.com
I spoke with CAP General Manager Ted Cooke for our iHeartMedia Valley Views show. Take a few minutes to find out more about this fascinating project .. how it began, the engineering necessary to make it work, and what a difference the CAP makes in the lives of millions of Arizonans.
