Meeting people and dating can be challenging, but itâs even tougher when youâre a single parent. Thatâs why Match is rolling out a new dating app, Stir, that aims to get rid of some of the barriers of dating as a single mom or dad.
There are around 20-million single parents in the U.S. and according to Match, that community is âoftentimes underserved on mainstream dating apps.â So Stir, which launched on National Single Parent Day, focuses on connecting single parents and meeting their specific needs. The app allows moms and dads to:
- Compare their schedules and show what their âme timeâ typically is, so matches can coordinate calendars easily.
- Match based on questions about their personality and values.
- Have a dating experience where they feel like they can be themselves.
Dinh Thi Bui, vice president of new verticals at Match Group, says they interview singles every year and every year, they get the same feedback that single parents are having a hard time dating. âThey felt stigmatized in the dating world, like it is a turn-off to disclose they have children,â he explains. And after seeing his sister face the challenges of getting back into the dating world as a single mom, he decided to build a âsupportive community that caters to single parents like her and make it easier for them to connect without fear of judgment.â
