Science Says Drinking Red Wine Makes You Skinnier

Finally, some weight loss advice everyone can get behind. According to a study conducted by Harvard University in 2015, women who drank two glasses of wine a day were less likely to be obese. It wasn’t just a small help for those in the study; the results showed the women’s risk of becoming obese was lowered by around 70%.

According to a family planning health organization, red wine makes you skinnier, lowers your blood sugar, and reduces your liver fat. It sounds too good to be true, but another 2015 study sheds some light on why it works.

Oregon State’s College of Agricultural Studies found that ellagic acid, found in Pinot noir grapes, helps your body burn fat. Researchers found that mice that ate extracts from the grapes stored less fat in their liver, and their blood sugar was lower than the mice who were not given the extracts.

The result of the study? “Ellagic acid retards the growth of fat cells, and slows down the formation of new ones.” The next time you reach for the corkscrew, tell everyone that it’s part of your fat-burning plan.
