Patagonia is known for their outdoor clothing and gear, but now they’ve decided to make a foray into the wine business. Yes, really. If that doesn’t seem to make sense to you, Patagonia founderYvon Choinardsays it shouldn’t be. “I’m kind of a wild card,” he explains. “You never know where I’m going to go.”

He founded the company in 1973, but in 2012 he debuted a food division to help find solutions to the world environmental crisis, so he was prepared for this new venture. The new wines are being produced organically with a correlation between taste and nutrition, using low intervention techniques, little or no sulfur and stress biodiversity. They have announced ten different wines and “Bloomberg” has rated them on a 10-point scale. Here’s a rundown:

  • 2020 Alex Craighead Kindell Sparkling Multifruit Wine($19) (7/10)
  • 2021 Alex Craighead Kindeli Piquette(4 cans, $28) (5/10)
  • 2020 Meinklang Rose($25) (7/10)
  • 2020 Meinklang Thyme Blanc($25) 8/10)
  • Terada Honke Gonin Musume JunmaiSake($39) (8/10)
