Wendy’s has just announced a new vegetarian menu item – the Spicy Black Bean Burger. Instead of meat or chicken, this new burger features two kinds of protein: chickpeas and black beans. The sandwich – which like Wendy’s other beef sandwiches, features a square patty – comes topped with:
- Spicy chipotle sauce
- Tomatoes
- Sweet onion slices
- Melted pepper jack cheese
- Chipotle jalapenos
- Romaine lettuce
Just because something is meatless doesn’t mean it needs to be tasteless,” says Culinary Innovation VPJohn Li. “With our Spicy Black Bean Burger, we crafted it to feature texture, flavor, and a nutrition profile we were looking for.” Look for it in select test markets in Jacksonville, Florida, Columbus, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for now.
- And one other thing…Wendy’swill also unveil a new Ghost Pepper Ranch dipping sauce beginning on July 12th. The chain says it’s designed to complement Wendy’s Spicy Nuggets with a “flavor explosion” that will “set your tongue ablaze.”
