Mom Gets Bill For Kid Spending $1,250 Playing Online Game

Most of us have given in to our kids getting more screen time than ever over the last year, but do you really know what they’re doing with all that time online? One mom was shocked to find out what her son was up to after she got her bank statement.Sara Louise Pettysays she got a bill for $1,250 her kid racked up in third-party app purchases while playing Roblox online.

The game platform has free games and games that require a virtual currency called “Robux” to make in-game upgrades. Robux can cost anywhere from $4.99 to $99.99 and users can also make purchases through third-party apps. Petty says her son was buying Robux and giving them to his friends because they were bullying him into doing it and he was feeling a little outcast socially.

So how did her son spend this much without her knowing? “He set it up with his fingerprint and my fingerprint, so that he could access the iPad if I wasn’t home,” explains the mom from Larchmont, New York. So he used his fingerprint to make purchases without her permission. Roblox encourages parents to review their payment settings in third-party payment services and to make those passwords protected.
