Billions Of Dollars To Be Bet On Sunday’s Super Bowl

While millions of people will be watching Sunday’s Super Bowl just for the fun of it, there are plenty of folks who'll have a lot riding on whether the Kansas City Chiefs or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win. That’s because a lot of people will have money on the game. 

According to the American Gaming Association:

  • Approximately $4.3 billion will be bet on Sunday’s Super Bowl, with about 23.2 million people placing bets.
  • Of those bets, almost 1.4 million will be made in person at a sportsbook, which is a 60% decrease from last year.
  • Online seems to be the way to go this year, with a record 7.5 million betting through online or mobile platforms, up 63% from last year.
  • 1.8 million will place a bet with a bookie, a decrease of 21%.
  • 11.9 million will casually place bets with friends, down 18% from last year.
  • 4.5 million will put money on a pool or squares contest, a decrease of 19%. 

So, who is everyone betting for? 

  • Well, the poll finds that 56% of Americans will be putting their money on the Chiefs to win, while 44% will bet on theTom Bradyand the Buccaneers.
  • ONE MORE THING!A separateLendingTreesurvey finds that 51% of Americans will make some type of bet on Super Bowl Sunday, and interestingly, people who were laid off, furloughed or had hours cut due to the pandemic are more likely to make a bet than those whose jobs were not affected. What’s more, 43% of bettors will wager at last $100 on the game, while 8% will bet more than $250.
