Forget Hot Chocolate Bombs, Hot Tea Bombs Are Now A Thing

Last fall we were introduced to a delightful drink trend: hot chocolate bombs. They took off on social media and made their way to mugs everywhere, just in time for cold weather and festive holiday gifts. The little spheres of chocolate are filled with hot cocoa and mini marshmallows, caramel and other tasty treats. But now the trend has evolved and some beverage connoisseurs are experimenting with their drink of choice - tea.

Hot tea bombs aren’t made with chocolate, instead they’re created with isomalt - a clear sugar substitute that can easily be poured into spherical molds. Teabags or loose tea goes in the center and then the two sides are put together to make the tea bomb. It gets placed into a mug and when hot water is poured over it, the bomb dissolves and the tea steeps.

Like hot chocolate bombs, the hot tea version can also be decorated with edible food coloring, crystals, glitter, flowers and more. They’re having a moment on highly visual platforms like Instagram, Pinterest and especially TikTok, wherethe hashtag#teabombshas more than 2.5 million views. And now that the trend is catching on, several vendors on Etsy are selling single and multi packs of hot tea bombs.
