A dermatologist says it’s because all that washing is stripping away the natural oils of our skin

She suggests folks constantly moisturize, but use hand creams instead of lotions, and not to over dry your hands after washing

Moisturizing right away helps
Your best defense against dryness? Moisturizing your hands right after you wash them, “because you want to kind of seal it and maybe prevent some of this dryness from occurring,” says Bridges. 
In fact, you should avoid overdrying your hands before you moisturize. Instead, use a hand dryer or pat your hands dry, and leave them a bit damp, before you add cream.
