Word of mouth and positive reviews can go a long way for drumming up business for a restaurant, so much so that an eatery can experience a boom in popularity almost overnight with a good word and viral social media post. Whether the establishment has been a longtime staple of the community or is a relative newcomer to the restaurant scene, there are plenty of eateries that have achieved a level of regional, or even national, fame and praise that continue to entice customers to see what it's all about.

LoveFood compiled a list of the "most famous restaurant" in every state, basing its picks on reviews, awards and accolades, and first-hand experience to find the eateries that hungry diners are "just longing to enjoy a meal at" and that are worth visiting at least once.

So which Arizona restaurant is considered to be the "most famous" in the entire state?

Durant's Steakhouse

This upscale Phoenix eatery has drawn in a host of customers over the last several decades, and even as an alleged connection to a notorious mobster. Durant's Steakhouse is located at 2611 N. Central Avenue.

Here's what the site had to say:

"A legendary steakhouse in Phoenix, Durant's — all dim lighting and red leather booths — is the type of place that never changes. Part of the appeal is the man behind the restaurant: the late Jack Durant, who is rumored to have had connections with mobster Bugsy Siegel. Whatever the truth, the storied spot has been feeding diners exceptional steaks — and perfect Martinis — for over half a century."
