14-Year-Old Arrested, Accused Of Attempted Armed Robbery At Phoenix Store

Phoenix Police arrested a 14-year-old boy after he allegedly tried to rob an Albertsons on Sunday evening.

The teen attempted to enter the grocery store near Carefree Highway and North Valley Parkway after 9 p.m., when Albertsons closes its doors to new customers. He then shot a glass door and climbed through to enter the store.

Once inside, the 14-year-old fired the gun into the air and ordered employees and customers to get on the ground, police said. At least a dozen people were inside the store at the time.

The teen tried to open a cash register and then shot at it when it wouldn't open. Police did not say if anyone at the store was injured.

He left the store before authorities arrived, but police found him in a vehicle near Germann and Stapley roads a while later. He was taken into custody.

The teen was held at the Maricopa County Juvenile Court Center. He was charged with one count of attempted armed robbery, one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault, and 15 counts of endangerment.

Police did not name the teen because he's still a minor and offered no other identifying information.
