Beth & Friends & Food: April 3rd

How many times do you reach for the sour cream and realize that either it's spoiled or you don't have any. Also when you are baking and you need a cup of buttermilk and they only sell it in the quart size. Jan has the perfect recipe for both that will help you make it in minutes.

Plus when the kids want a snack, use that homemade sour cream to make a perfect snack with strawberries and brown sugar.

Homemade Sour Cream

INGREDIENTS

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons vinegar (red wine or cider) or 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon (don't use juice in plastic store bought lemon)

DIRECTIONS

Pour vinegar or lemon juice into cup of heavy cream and stir vigorously for 10-15 seconds.

Let sit for 15 minutes and ready to serve.

Homemade Buttermilk

INGREDIENTS

1 cup of milk of half and half

2 tablespoons vinegar (red wine or cider) or 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon (don't use juice in plastic store bought lemon)

DIRECTIONS

Pour vinegar or lemon juice into milk or half and half and stir vigorously for 10-15 seconds.

Let sit for 15 minutes and ready to serve.

Strawberry and Cream Snack

INGREDIENTS

1 pint medium sized strawberries

1 sour cream

1 cup brown sugar

DIRECTIONS

Have all ingredients in three separate bowls.

Take a strawberry, dredge it in sour cream (or yogurt if you prefer) and roll in brown sugar.

Of course Jan came into the studio fully prepared so you can watch our Facebook live to see just how fast the vinegar took action and created the sour cream and buttermilk.
