Around Arizona: AZ Big Train Operators Open House

Calling train enthusiasts of all ages! Spring has sprung which means it's the perfect time of year to celebrate the season with Trains in the Garden! Seven homes with G-Scale Garden Railroads will be on display throughout the Phoenix Valley for public viewing this weekend - April 1st & 2nd from noon to 4pm.

So what is a G-Scale Railroad? Building train layouts in the garden with natural vegetation and running large scale trains is a hobby that is enjoyed by people of all ages. Arizona Big Train Operators always welcome new members who may be interested in building a layout or just wish to socialize and share the experience of watching trains at monthly meetings. There are many members with years of experience willing to help share their knowledge.

The club also has a traveling display of trains running on a portable track called the “Modules” that are displayed multiple times a year throughout the Phoenix area to promote the hobby.

I'll never forget being a kid, running off with my friends to the railroad tracks to watch the trains roll by and smash pennies all while dreaming of wearing that conductor hat one day! These folks are taking those magic memories and turning them into new ones for young and old alike this weekend!

And the best part? They are accepting donations that will be used to maintain the train layouts they have built at Cardon Children's Medical Center and The Ryan House.

Full schedule and locations can be found HERE.
