Tips: Get there early if you want a spot in the parking lot! Otherwise be prepared to park on the road and add upwards to an extra mile to your hike! This one gets crowded but the other hikers we encountered were incredibly friendly and even offered to take our photo on the bridge (the line was about a dozen people deep, so be patient). Plan on continuing your adventures after your hike to Boynton Canyon up the road for a visit to the vortex at sunset!
About the Hike: Oh sweet Sedona, I just can't get enough of you. From your red rocks to your soft sand to your vortexes and magic, I just can't stay away. I get a lot of anxiety when it comes to crowds, but something about Sedona eases the nerves which was a pleasant surprise on a hike like Devils Bridge. I went into it assuming the worst, and came out so happy we did it. We arrived late due to an accident on the highway but seemed to have missed the morning crowd. Most hikers were finishing up as we arrived. We still had to park on the street but only a couple car lengths from the entrance to the turn-off to the trailhead. Rather than taking the road we took the trail leading from the bathroom in the parking lot, which I recommend as it adds some additional beauty to the hike. From there you meet with the road. Be careful if you have children or dogs as off-road vehicles seem to be somewhat oblivious to the hikers in their territory. Once you reach the trail it gradually gains elevation until you reach the base of the bridge. From here you'll traverse rocky staircases to the first viewpoint and then your destination. It can be somewhat of a scramble, so wear the right shoes and watch your footing!
Once you reach Devils Bridge you will likely encounter a line of hikers waiting for their photo op and another mob of hikers waiting to take those photos. From what we encountered, everyone was incredibly patient and friendly and we made new friends while waiting our turn. After you get your picture I recommend finding a clearing and a smooth rock and enjoying the views and a snack. It truly is unbeatable.
Coming down is more difficult than the climb, in my opinion. Take it slow and be aware of those around you. I saw a few hikers posted up holding on to rock walls for dear life saying they had a fear of heights.
This really is a bucket-list trail. I feel like you have to do it at least once. Mother nature truly has created a masterpiece here.
