Goat yoga.
Yes, this is a thing. It's a trend that's swept the nation in the last year or so and now I completely understand why.
First let me explain to you WHAT goat yoga entails. My class was at Fat Girl Yoga and consisted of a group of 12 yoga students with four baby goats from the local Happy Heart Homestead. All in cute little outfits (this is optional depending on where you practice). We embarked in an hour-long class hosted by the wonderful Stacey Sampson. As she directed our moves, the goats followed suit. Patiently waiting for us to lower ourselves onto our mats as an opportunity to pounce - literally. Suddenly you are doing downward facing dog with a goat on your back chewing your hair.
It was magical.
So WHY goats? Well, as a society we've come to love this cute little creature. Videos of silly goats and goats in sweaters have went viral on YouTube. Right here in Spokane you can get "goated" by the Wishing Star Foundation (a great charity where people give money to send baby goats to friends, coworkers and family). People are buying goats instead of lawn mowers to tend to their yards.
Goats make us HAPPY. They've been proven to be fantastic therapy animals. And being around these little goofy furry bundles of joy induces an automatic relaxation response that results in the release of serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin, which are hormones that play a role in elevating mood. Therefore goats equal ZEN. So why not combine them with yoga?
So basically what I'm saying is this. It's scientifically proven that goats and yoga were meant for each other. Which is why you need to try it ASAP.
Fat Girl Yoga has more classes in the works! But they sell out FAST and space is limited so reserve your spot while you still can HERE.
Oh and just a note....all goats were available for adoption. You know, just in case you fall head over heels in love.
There's a reason GOAT stands for greatest of all time. Because that's how I felt about my yoga class this weekend.
xoxo,
SJ
