I read an article from Glamour Magazine (12/29/19) that said, if you smoke, make it your New Year’s resolution to quit. Research shows that smokers are most successful at quitting in January than in any other month of the year. That's a great stat, but don't let it stop you from quitting that nasty and deadly habit in any month of the year! I'm embarrassed to admit that I smoked too. On and off for many years. I know...yuk! Straight-up cigarettes, too. Now people vape, if that helps you quit, great. Here are some other ways you may get help to quit. Arizona has a smoker's helpline where you can get resources to help you quit, including free coaching and free medication! Contact the ASHline at 800-55-66-222!
The American Cancer Society also has free tips and tools you can use. Click HERE or call 800-227-2345.
For me, I decided to "gift" quitting to my daughter. She had become old enough to be concerned when she saw me smoking, so I quit for HER. Yes, it was for me, but in "giving" it as a "gift" to someone else, I knew I'd never be able to take it back! To this day, 17 years later, she'll still tell you that's the greatest birthday gift she ever got! I actually started my quitting process a couple weeks before her birthday, and before I said anything, to give myself some time to adjust. Believe me, her reaction to that gift made any withdrawal symptoms worth it!
I wish you the best with your Quit Journey! Trust me, someday you'll look back, and wonder how you ever smoked!
Happy New Year ~Melissa
