The long wait is over! The Elton John biopic Rocketman opens nationwide today (May 31st). Rocketman, which was written by Lee Hall and directed by Dexter Fletcher -- with leading man Taron Egerton, who is already being singled out for his Oscar-worthy performance as Elton. Rather than lip-sync to Elton's original masters, Egerton supplied his own vocals over newly recorded tracks.
Elton and Egerton duet on the movie's theme song "(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again," which was written by Elton and Bernie Taupin and co-produced by Giles Martin and Greg Kurstin.
On the red carpet to Rocketman's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Elton seemed relieved to have finally gotten his story -- as he saw it -- on the silver screen: "This is the film that I wanted to make. It's been in the offing for 10 years. It's been on and off so many times, but it's the film that I wanted to make; I wouldn't change one thing about it."
