Miley Cyrus has unveiled her new breezy pop-rock sound with “Malibu,” the first single from her long-awaited as-yet-untitled LP. In the pared down song, Cyrus wears her love for fiancé Liam Hemsworth on her sleeve.
- The lyrics are simple, but infused with passion: "I never would've believed you/if three years ago you told me/I'd be here writing this song/ But here I am, next to you/ The sky's more blue in Malibu."
- The video, directed by Cyrus and Diane Martel, was also released Thursday.
- Cyrus recorded the album with producer Oren Yoel. She previewed her new (old) sound in an interview with Billboard, saying she was eschewing the experimentation for her rock roots. "I'm giving the world a hug and saying, 'Hey, look. We're good – I love you.' And I hope you can say you love me back."
- She will perform “Malibu” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards Sunday, May 21st.
