Up with People Jr summer camps for kids 8-12!

Up with People Junior., a performing arts summer camp for children, ages 8-12, will be offered in Phoenix this June and July. The one-week, co-ed, day camp, affiliated with the international group Up With People, will be June 17-21, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily at All Saints Episcopal Day School, 6300 N.Central Ave. and July 15-19, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily at the Black Theatre Troupe, 1333 E. Washington St. The cost is $225* for each day camp. The non-profit Up with People Jr.brings together local students, ages 8-12, to impact and inspire their community through education, community service, the performing arts and summer camp fun. Through this unique combination of activities, campers gain a sense of social responsibility, global awareness, confidence and purpose, as well as the experience of and appreciation for working cooperatively as part of a diverse group. A typical day in UWP Jr. is learning songs and dances from around the world and exploring their origin, while getting to know more about themselves through team-building activities and cross-cultural education.

The Phoenix program is headed by Up with People Jr. Site Director Paula Duncan, an alumna of Up with People. “We have the opportunity to teach children to appreciate other cultures, to be leaders who can impact change and to have empathy for all people,” said Duncan. “I loved making the props for the performance and made new friends. I want to do it again. It was so fun and I liked doing the performance,” said Denrick, a former participant.
