The State of Arizona has a tax credit program that makes it possible for taxpayers to direct some of their tax burden to be used in the service of various non-profit organizations and both public and private schools, with the taxpayer deciding exactly which organization gets the funds. You make a donation to a qualifying school or non-profit organization and you get a tax credit .. dollar for dollar. In 2015 the state decided that donations made by April 15 could be used as credit toward the previous year's tax burden.
