Suicide is the second leading cause of death for children and teens in Arizona, and
thoughts of suicide tend to increase at certain times, including around Spring Break.
It's good to know that there is a place for kids to call to get help, where they can call
to talk with someone their own age, a trained teen counselor. Teen Lifeline peer
counseling and texting is available daily from 3 - 9pm, with after hours support
provided by Crisis Response Network. The number is 602-248-8336 (TEEN).
Parents can get help also by calling 1-800-273-8255 (TALK)
I spoke with Teen Hotline Clinical Director Nikki Kontz about the program, about the
seasonal surge in teen suicide, and how Teen Lifeline is saving lives. For more information
