Valley Views- Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego & The Scottsdale Moms Blog

Mayor Kate Gallego
Kate Eschbach from Scottsdale Moms Blog

It was a pleasure to sit down with Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. We touched on some very complicated issues and got a rare look into how she manages the 5th largest and fastest growing city in the USA. Listen till the end to hear about her friendship with Presidential candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Mayor Kate Gallego has spent her career working to find solutions to complex problems. Prior to being elected as Mayor, she served for five years as the City Councilwoman for District 8, a large district covering much of South Phoenix. Her record of proven results includes leading the campaign to pass Phoenix’s citywide transportation plan through 2050 and working to ensure equal pay for equal work.
While on the council, Mayor Gallego helped make Phoenix a leader in job creation, and worked with police and firefighters to improve public safety and make neighborhoods more secure.
In March 2019, Mayor Gallego became the second elected female Mayor in Phoenix history and the youngest big city Mayor in the United States. Mayor Gallego is passionate about building a Phoenix that works for everyone, including her two-year-old son, Michael, and she led the effort to partner with AARP to make Phoenix a city where seniors can thrive. She believes everyone should have access to cutting edge medical care, and has led on expanding Phoenix's biomedical campus. Mayor Gallego is working to grow the city’s economy, create jobs, and stand up for the city’s core values.
Prior to being elected Mayor to the city that she loves, Mayor Gallego worked on Strategic Planning and Economic Development for the utility company, Salt River Project. She worked to attract new companies and jobs to Phoenix. Mayor Gallego graduated from Harvard University and earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Kate Eschbach from the Scottsdale Moms Blog joined me in studio, we touched on many topics including date night ideas and Kate also shared some wisdom for moms who are moving to the Valley.

Scottsdale Moms Blog is a community – online and off – of women raising kids in the Phoenix-Metro area.
We are a collaborative blog written by and for local moms with daily posts on things to do around town, ways to get involved in the community, parenting solutions, personal essays from local moms, local business spotlights, giveaways, and more.
“The West’s Most Western Town” has grown into a city of nearly 250,000 people, making it easy to get lost in the crowd. We hope you learn more about our community and get out there and experience it firsthand (and tell us about it too!).
We know that it’s difficult to get out and meet other moms when naps and eating and potty-training are calling for your attention – especially if you’re new in town, new to motherhood, or both. This is our little attempt to make the world feel smaller and to encourage you that you aren’t alone.
