Americans Already Worried How Inflation Will Affect Holiday Shopping

We may not even be in September yet, but it turns out a lot of people already have their mind on holiday shopping. Specifically, they are already concerned about how inflation is going to impact their holiday season.

A new “U.S. News & World Report” survey finds:

  • 84% of Americans are concerned about how inflation will impact their holiday shopping.
  • 43% of these people say they worry about it “a lot.”
  • 81% are already doing something about it, adjusting their everyday spending.
  • Overall, the average American planned to spend $648 on holiday gifts last year.
  • 52% say they plan to spend even less than that this year.
  • 51% hope to save money by using things like online coupons, apps and more.

And it’s not just the holidays where folks are looking to save money.

  • 58% of Americans say they seek out coupons to save money at least once a week.
  • 25% do so once a month.
  • Many are also looking to save money using discounts like:
    • Promotional codes from online retailers (67%)
    • Buy one, get one deals (58%)
    • Free shipping coupons (54%)
    • Rebate offers (40%)
