Do you enjoy a nice afternoon nap from time to time? It’s a habit many of us have picked up over the last year and it could actually be good for your cardiovascular health. According to astudyfrom Switzerland, taking one or two naps a week can lower your heart attack risk.
Researchers observed more than 34-hundred volunteers with no history of heart disease and they found napping once or twice a week is associated with a lower risk of heart attack, heart failure, or stroke, compared to those who don’t nap. But there’s a sweet spot and napping more than that isn’t better for heart health.
In fact, taking six to seven naps a week is linked to a higher risk of heart disease. Study participants who napped that often had a higher rate of cardiovascular disease events than non-nappers. But that could be because of underlying chronic conditions, like obstructive sleep apnea, not because of the extra naps. So to get the most out of your midday snooze, keep them short - around 30 minutes - and don’t make it a daily habit.
