Thanksgiving Dinner *Should* Cost You Less Than $5 A Person

Multi-generation family preparing Christmas turkey in kitchen

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual report, a Thanksgiving meal for 10 should cost about $48.91 this year, which makes it less than five bucks a person

The most expensive item will be the turkey at $1.30 a pound, or $20.80 for a 16-pound bird

This price also includes sides like veggies, rolls, stuffing and sweet potatoes, as well as pie

Sure, those numbers seem absurdly low, but believe it or not, the group came up with their estimates based on information from 250 shoppers who checked grocery prices in 38 states.
