'Karate Kid' Star Robert Garrison Dead At 59

Robert Garrison, who was best known for his role as Tommy in the early installments of The Karate Kid, died on Friday (September 27). He was 59.

As per TMZ, the late actor was battling kidney and liver problems. Garrison passed away in a hospital in West Virginia, where he had been for over a month before his organs shut down. He is survived by his brother, Patrick, and Patrick's wife, Linda. His family is currently working on funeral arrangements. In a statement from his rep, Garrison was referred to as "an ambassador to The Karate Kid legacy." "Rob was a great person and ambassador to The Karate Kid legacy. His performance in Season 2 of Cobra Kai, being his last, was simply amazing and he stole the episode. He will be missed by me and everyone he encountered," the statement read.

Garrison started work in Hollywood as a child actor in the late '70s, before he landed the big role in the 1984 martial arts film starring Ralph Macchio. Many will remember the star for playing one of the Cobra Kai members who yells, "Get him a body bag. Yeah!" Later in his career, he went onto television, nabbing roles in MacGyver, Columbo and Coach. Earlier this year, he reprised his role as Tommy in the YouTube TV series, Cobra Kai.
