OMG: Battle Of The Orange Takes Place In Italy

There's no shortage of Vitamin C around one northern Italian town.

During the Battle of the Oranges in the town of Ivrea, people are literally tossing oranges at each other in a symbolic display of rebellion. The wildly painful and juicy orange toss is held in the days leading up to Fat Tuesday.

The celebration stems from a Middle Ages rebellion against a tyrannical lord who ruled the town. It's not a three-day orange crush that's become Italy's largest food fight. More than 50,000 oranges are destroyed in the citrus crusade.
