The Brit Awards paid tribute to George Michael last night, with Coldplay's Chris Martin performing a duet of Michael's 1986 track "A Different Corner," alongside a video of a late singer.
The tribute was introduced by Michael's Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley, as well as Helen DeMacque and Shirlie Holliman (aka Pepsi & Shirlie), who tours as backup singers for the duo.
"We were the best of friends," Ridgeley said. "We monkeyed around recording sketches and jingles in George's bedroom...On Nov. 5 1979, I phoned George and said 'It's now or never.' Then we formed our first band."
Martin kicked off the song solo, with old footage of Michael airing behind him, and after the first chorus, Martin and Michael sang together.
