“Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures.”
Let me tell ya…not all Airbnb’s are not created equal. And this gem nestled at the base of Thumb Butte in Prescott, Arizona is one of them. Alice and Wonderland would have found this place dreamy. It’s a scavenger hunt of magic. And even after three days of adventuring through every corner of the Foxbriar Inn, I still hadn’t calmed my curiosity.
Mick Shepard and his wife Sandy left no rock unturned while reconstructing this 100 year old home. Hundreds of hours were spent tearing out rock and cement slabs, replacing windows with stained glass and putting in new infrastructure – electricity, water and gas lines. But what truly makes this property unique is the repurposed items used to adorn the home. From an old Civil War uniform to multiple clocks all left unwound so time would stand still. A rug made of bow-ties and a breadbox with an ivory beauty set including an intricate mirror. A deep clawfoot tub and weathered upright piano. Ancient columns in the front room are of pioneer vintage from Southern Utah, flanked by antique Mexican doors from the Alamo district of San Antonio. Two carved coronation chairs in the main salon sailed from Norway to America by tall ship. The library floor is laid with 200-year-old barn wood from Wisconsin. The list goes on and on.
The property even has an outdoor dining area – or vinery - fit for a feast, a gypsy wagon that can also be rented and a beautiful carriage house complete with a vintage car.
