Less Than Half Of Employees Say They Have The Option To Work Remotely

Thanks to advancements in technology it’s easier than ever to work remotely, but apparently not that many offices are open to the idea.

A new poll finds:

  • Only 47% of employees say their company gives them the option to work off-site.
  • On a more positive note, 56% of employees say that in the past three years their companies have expanded the opportunities to work remotely.
  • Of those who do have the option, 70% take advantage of it and work from home, while 6% work from a café or shared office space.
  • The 24% who don’t take advantage of it, have a variety of reasons not to, including:
    • Not having the right technology (39%)
    • They’re less productive due to distractions (38%)
  • As for where companies are more likely to offer remote work options, San Diego, Chicago and Austin have the most of the 28 cities in the survey.
  • What’s more, those in Chicago,Phoenix and San Diego say they are most likely to work from home if they can.
  • About 74% of working parents will opt to work from home if offered, as will 64% of those without children.
  • Interestingly, more men work from home than women (77% vs. 64%)
